Rum Runner (Ryan’s Edition)

Rum Runner (Ryan’s Edition)

This version of the Rum Runner was inspired by Puerto Rico. Living in the Caribbean, one of the key staples here is our RUM. Bacardi is our go to since it is now based here in Puerto Rico. We planned on using all Bacardi Rum but our version calls for Banana Rum and we were unable to find it. We ended up going with another tasty Puerto Rican rum for this one flavor. Club Caribe which is pretty tasty. Fun Fact – A rum runner is a tropical, fruity cocktail made up of rum and various fruit. The tropical rum cocktail was invented at the Holiday Isle Tiki Bar in Islamorada, Florida in the late 1950’s. The rum cocktail was named after the actual “rum runners” that inhabited the Florida Keys. The term rum-running was current by 1916 and was used during the Prohibition era in the United States (1920–1933), when ships from Bimini in the western Bahamas transported cheap Caribbean rum to Florida speakeasies. However, rum’s cheapness made it a low-profit item for the rum-runners, and they soon moved on to smuggling Canadian whisky which we may blog about on another post.

Instructions

  • Measure out all your ingredients. This will make the process simple.
  • Pour all your liquids into the blender.
  • Then put your frozen bananas, pineapple ice cubes and frozen pineapple chunks in your blender and blend on high for about 50 seconds or until blended.
  • Once blended set in freezer and start working on your garnishes.
  • Start by cutting the top of a pineapple and then cut another slice off the top about ½ thick.
  • With this ½ inch slice, cut into it like a pizza making 6 even wedges.
  • Then take a skewer and push it through your pineapple wedge and top with a cherry. Repeat this process 5 more times until you have 6 skewered garnishes in total.
